Having free accommodation was such a gift
The Zischke family were in complete shock when they received two-year-old Hannah’s diagnosis of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia.
Needing to relocate from Darwin to Adelaide for Hannah’s treatment, the family were supported by the Childhood Cancer Association, and thankfully, were able to stay at our free family accommodation units in Prospect.
Hannah’s mum, Nicole, says arriving at the units late on Friday afternoon after Hannah had been in hospital having chemo all day was such a massive relief.
“To be able to unpack out bags, enjoy some comforts of our temporary home and allow the children some space to play and rest was amazing,” Nicole says.
“It was nice to know that we were close to the hospital and had other families around us in a similar situation. The set-up and location of the homes is just perfect.
“For the first time in two weeks, Hannah had an outdoor place to play and (her brother) Jack was happy to be settling into our temporary home.
“The accommodation afforded us space to be a family and come to terms with the trauma of Hannah’s diagnosis, try to manage the incredible upheaval in our lives, and to have a comfortable home environment to support our children through these changes in the best way we could.”
