The 15th annual OnkaStompa Fishing Competition was a fun and relaxing fishing fundraiser held in perfect weather on Sunday, 8th November 2020 at Perry's Bend on the Onkaparinga River in Noarlunga Downs.
To enter, attendees were asked to give a donation of their choice to the Childhood Cancer Association, which also gives them a ticket into random prize draws during the day - plus there is an onsite BBQ, drinks and fishing goods for sale with every cent supporting our cause.
Categories awarded on the day were: Biggest Overall Bream (Onkastompa Champion); Biggest Bream Men; Biggest Bream Women; Biggest Bream Junior <15; Biggest Mulloway (Open Class); Biggest "Other Fish" Senior; and Biggest "Other Fish Junior <15.
Event organiser, Mark Mills, set a personal challenge to raise more than $50,000 in 2020 and if successful he promised to run the event for a further five years. It was an ambitious target, but one that has been smashed with a phenomenal $57,240.40 raised.
Thank you to everyone who volunteers, sponsors and participates in this amazing annual event, you are making a huge impact in the lives of children with cancer, and their families.
Special thanks to the City of Onkaparinga for supporting the 2020 event through the 2020-21 Community Event Sponsorship program, with a $4,199 cash grant and an additional $540 in-kind support for the delivery and pick-up of portable toilets on-site.
