Counselling & Telehealth Services

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, we are having to adjust to changes in the way that we perform our usual activities, and can imagine how this at times might feel daunting. The same is true for accessing counselling support. We understand the use of telehealth (telephone or video conferencing), rather than face-to-face counselling, may be something you feel uncomfortable with or reluctant about, for some of the following reasons:

  • You are unsure about the use of the technology
  • You miss the actual face to face contact with the counsellor
  • You don't know if it will feel right or work for you or your family members
  • You don't know if you can build a genuine connection with your counsellor this way

Did you know, that for some time now (prior to COVID-19), the Childhood Cancer Association has been supporting people via telehealth consultations.

There are many benefits to the use of telehealth including:

  • You can access counselling support in the comfort of your own home
  • You don't need to travel to appointments
  • As with our face-to-face services, there is no cost involved (other than the cost of your own internet if you are using video conferencing)
  • You are still able to see your counsellor when sessions are conducted via video conferencing

If you feel you would benefit from talking to one of the counsellors and you are not sure about using telehealth, we encourage you to discuss this with the team. The Family Service Counsellors will be able to help answer any questions or concerns you may have and provide guidance to help you feel at ease. Please know, we are here to support you in adjusting to the use of telehealth.

At this stage, we are unsure when face-to-face counselling will resume. We would therefore encourage you to not wait to access support, but rather make contact as soon as you feel the need arises.

If you do require support we encourage you to not wait. Please make contact with the Family Service Counsellors on (08) 8239 2211 to discuss accessing services via telehealth.
