‘Playing for Ross’ Charity Match Unites Soccer Community
We're incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make the ‘Playing for Ross’ Charity Soccer Match such a remarkable success.
Held at the Modbury Jets Soccer Club on Sunday, 7th June 2026, under beautiful blue skies, the event brought together an amazing community of players, sponsors, donors, volunteers and spectators, all united by a shared goal: supporting children with cancer, and their families.
Thanks to the generosity of everyone involved, the event raised more than $20,000 – doubling the initial fundraising target of $10,000.

The match was organised by Johnny Keko in honour of his brother Ross, who passed away from cancer 30 years ago. Through his vision, dedication and countless hours of work behind the scenes, Johnny transformed a personal tribute into an inspiring community event that will have a lasting impact on families facing childhood cancer.
Players from across the soccer community generously donated their time and energy, creating an exciting day of football while raising vital funds and awareness for the Childhood Cancer Association.

Every dollar raised will help provide practical and emotional support to children with cancer, and their families, throughout South Australia. From professional counselling, family support programs and relocation accommodation for regional families, community fundraising events like ‘Playing for Ross’ help ensure families receive the support they need throughout their cancer journey.
We extend our sincere thanks to every person and organisation who contributed to the success of the event.
"We are incredibly grateful to Johnny, the players, sponsors, volunteers and everyone who attended or donated," said Childhood Cancer Association Chief Executive, Cath O'Loughlin.
"This event is a wonderful example of what can be achieved when a community comes together to honour a loved one while making a meaningful difference in the lives of others."

While the final whistle has blown, the impact of the day will continue long after the match has ended.
