Turn September Gold for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and we're calling on South Australians to turn the state gold and show their support for children with cancer, and their families.
Gold is the international colour of childhood cancer awareness, with the Gold Ribbon recognised around the world as the symbol of childhood cancer.
This September, we're encouraging the community to get involved through three simple actions: Wear Gold. Give Gold. Be Gold.

“Childhood Cancer Awareness Month is an important opportunity to shine a light on the impact of childhood cancer and the challenges families face every day,” said Cath.
“We want people to know that there are many ways they can make a difference. Whether it’s wearing something gold, making a donation or taking on a fundraising challenge, every action helps us continue supporting families when they need it most.”
Wear Gold
Wearing gold is a simple way to show support and help start conversations about childhood cancer.
Individuals, schools, workplaces, sporting clubs and community groups can get involved by wearing gold throughout September. Gold shoelaces, ribbon earrings, scrunchies, lapel pins, wristbands and awareness ribbons are available from our online store.
Give Gold
Donations help us provide more than 30 free support services to children with cancer, and their families, including counselling, accommodation, education support and equipment loans.
We currently support more than 450 families affected by childhood cancer each year and receives an average of 60 referrals for children newly diagnosed with cancer in South Australia.
“Behind every childhood cancer diagnosis is a family whose world has changed,” Cath said.
“While medical treatment is critical, families also need support with the practical and emotional challenges that come with cancer. Our services help families cope with those challenges, completely free of charge.”
We don't receive any government funding and rely on the generosity of the community to continue providing its services.
Be Gold
For those wanting to take action, Be Gold by creating your own fundraiser or challenge.
From a gold-themed morning tea or workplace fundraiser to a sporting challenge, head shave or community event, there are countless ways to raise funds and awareness. Supporters can also become a Childhood Champion with a regular monthly donation.
“You don’t have to do something big to make a difference,” Cath said.
“We’ve seen time and again how an idea that starts with one person can bring together a whole workplace, school, sporting club or community. That collective support makes a real difference to the families we support.”
This September, South Australians are encouraged to get behind Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and help turn the state gold.
