Meet our mascot Elliot
Every child diagnosed with cancer, and referred to the Childhood Cancer Association, receives an Elliot toy to help them through their cancer journey.
Children with cancer, and their siblings, are able to write letters to Elliot, who in turn responds.
Sami was just eight years old when her little sister Becky was diagnosed with cancer. Sami fondly remembers Elliot’s support during this difficult time.
“Not only was he a comforting stuffed toy that was a dog, being my favourite animal, but he also represented someone that both my sister and I could turn to even when we were apart,” Sami says.
“Becky and I were able to hold onto him and know that while I was getting into bed cuddling my Elliot dog from home, Becky would be cuddling her Elliot dog from hospital.
“We would write letters to him when we were in hospital or at home together, which was a fun and therapeutic activity to do. This became an outlet for me as I was able to write down what I was feeling and thinking and knew someone was listening. It was always exciting waiting for and receiving a reply from Elliot, providing us with support.”
