Why Regular Giving Helps Families Facing Childhood Cancer

When a child is diagnosed with cancer, life can change in an instant. Families are suddenly navigating appointments, treatment, hospital stays and decisions they never expected to face. In the middle of so much uncertainty, practical support can make a real difference. Regular giving helps the Childhood Cancer Association be there for families throughout their cancer journey, providing consistent support when they need it for as long as it’s needed.

What families face when a child is diagnosed with cancer

A childhood cancer diagnosis can turn everyday life upside down. Families may spend long hours at hospital, adjust work commitments and reorganise life around treatment schedules and appointments. For families travelling from regional or interstate areas, there can also be the added challenge of being away from home for treatment.

Parents are supporting their child while trying to care for siblings and manage the practical demands of family life. Some families also face financial pressure, exhaustion and uncertainty about what comes next. And for families who experience the loss of a child, support may continue to be needed as they navigate grief and life after bereavement.

Why monthly giving matters more than a one-off donation

A one-off donation can provide valuable support at a particular point in time. But regular giving helps create something equally important: continuity.

When people choose to give each month, we can plan with greater confidence and continue providing practical services throughout the year. It means families can access support as their needs change — from diagnosis and treatment through to recovery, survivorship or grief and loss.

Support that continues

Childhood cancer journeys rarely follow a predictable timeline. Regular gifts help sustain the services families rely on over months and, sometimes, years.

Help when families need it

Because regular giving provides ongoing support, we can continue to respond to the practical needs of families as they arise. Whether that means accommodation stays, equipment loans, counselling or other family support.

A small gift can become ongoing support

A regular gift doesn't have to be large to make a difference. A manageable monthly contribution, given consistently, can build into meaningful support over time.

What your monthly gift actually provides

Your regular gift helps us continue to provide practical support to children with cancer, and their families, throughout their journey.

This includes services such as counselling, hospital and family support, accommodation close to treatment, respite stays, equipment loans, education support, sibling programs and financial assistance.

Every family’s experience is different, and so are their needs. Your ongoing support helps us maintain the services and resources families can turn to when they need them.

Hear from our Childhood Champions

Our Childhood Champions are regular donors who choose to stand alongside children with cancer and their families throughout the year.

“The act of giving is profoundly rewarding. Regular donations ensure continuous support, providing more than just financial help – they bring stability to families when they need it most. Each contribution, no matter the size, adds up to significant aid over time, and my regular contribution accumulates into substantial support, enabling the Childhood Cancer Association to plan and deliver their programs reliably.” – Brendon Hore, Childhood Champion.
