We are committed to providing a highly professional service which respects your right to confidentiality and privacy. All personal information gathered will remain confidential and secure and shared only with your consent, except with respect to:

Safety

• By law, we are required to make any disclosure we think necessary to:
• Keep you safe from harming yourself 
• Protect you from being harmed by someone else
• Keep others safe
• Protect a child at risk of abuse or neglect

Legal Matters

Courts of law can obtain information and records they need. If you are or become involved in a court case your notes/file can be subpoenaed by the court.

Supervision

Our Family Service Team engage in regular supervision to improve their practice. They might raise your case with their supervisor to receive feedback about the treatment approach they are using or work they are undertaking. This is a confidential process.

We work in close collaboration with referring agencies such as the Women's and Children's Hospital (WCH) and the Youth Cancer Service team. At times relevant information may be shared with referring agencies with your consent, in order to provide the best care possible for you and your family.

We only communicate with other agencies about the care you have received with your consent. If you would like us to communicate with other agencies you will be asked to provide written consent before any information is shared.

Consistent with professional laws and standards, records are kept of the contact that we have with each client. You have the right to ask questions about your treatment and view the records we keep.

As these are professional records, they can be misinterpreted and/or upsetting to untrained readers. Therefore, we ask you to make an appointment to review these records in the presence of trained staff so that the contents can be discussed.

We are committed to the safety and wellbeing of all children and young people and young people accessing our services and the welfare of the children in our care will always be our first priority. For more information please click here.

• You can also register a complaint about a psychologist to the Psychology Board of Australia, see www.psychologyboard.gov.au. Complaints can be made by phone, mail or in person at an AHPRA office.

Please help us to help you by:

• Treating our staff and other patients with respect
• Attending your appointments on time, or phone us if you are running late
• Letting us know as soon as possible if you are unable to keep an appointment
• Telling us if you change your phone number or other contact details
• Not smoking, consuming alcohol or using prohibited substances on our premises.
