Child Minding
We offer a child-minding service designed to relieve parents for short periods while their child is in the Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
Who Can Access Child Minding?
Families who have been referred to the Childhood Cancer Association can make a request for a volunteer to mind their child in the ward or clinic of the Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
How Can Child Minding Support Me?
Child minding for the child with cancer and/or their siblings enables parents to leave the hospital for short periods. Examples of when parents may find this service helpful include:
- Taking a break
- Attending to domestic duties outside of the hospital
- Attending appointments for themselves or their other children
- Attending meetings, pay bills, collect things from home etc
About our Volunteer Child Minders
Our child minders are Childhood Cancer Association volunteers who have undergone appropriate screening and training.
Availability
The child minding service is only available to children within the ward and clinic of the Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
While we try to do our best to meet all requests for child minding, as the service requires volunteer assistance, it is subject to availability.
How To Access Our Child Minding Service
Please speak to your hospital social worker, Michael Rice Centre nursing staff, or contact our Family Service Team.
