Elliot is our lovable mascot, and a special friend to children with cancer and their families.
Elliot is given to every child with cancer who is referred to our services and can be used in a range of other ways, such as demonstrating medical procedures in a child-friendly way, as a tool for teaching new skills such as relaxation and as a fun communication tool between children and their friends/classmates.
Children and their siblings can write to Elliot, and he writes back!
Writing to Elliot provides a pleasant activity or distraction for children while in hospital or at home. Children often share their feelings and concerns with Elliot, or ask the sorts of questions they may not feel comfortable asking anyone else.
Many children and their siblings continue writing to Elliot when they have finished treatment, which provides some continuity for children that may be useful to adjusting to life after treatment.
How To Send A Letter to Elliot
Children and their siblings can write letters to Elliot and post them either at the Childhood Cancer Association office, at the Women's & Children's Hospital, or via Australia Post or email.

If you would like Elliot to reply please ensure the letters are clearly identified with the child’s full name and address. Elliot is not able to respond to unidentifiable letters or to letters from children who have not been referred to our services.
An Elliot Tips book is available to siblings of children with cancer.
This book explores some different emotions that siblings might feel when their brother or sister is diagnosed with cancer, and provides some simple strategies that might help. The book can be used as a conversation starter within families and is suitable for children in the 5-12 age bracket.
An Elliot Tips book will be included in your family pack where appropriate, or you can contact the Family Service Team to obtain a copy.
All children aged 0-12 years with cancer referred to the Childhood Cancer Association - and their siblings - will receive a card from Elliot on their birthday if we have been provided with the children’s birth dates.
